What is Doordash and How Does it Work

Doordash is an online food delivery platform. Customers go on their website or the app and choose from a wide array of restaurants that are currently open in their area. Although, the restaurant does not have to offer their entire menu. They can choose what food products they want to sell on the platform.

This customer order then goes to the restaurant where the food is prepared and set aside as takeout.

This is where you step in. Doordash delivery drivers, also known as Dashers, receive this order and drive or bike to the restaurant to pick up the food. Food is picked up, then delivered to the customer. Quite simple.

What makes Doordash interesting is how they schedule Dashers. Dashers / delivery drivers / whomever have to pick from an array of time slots in certain areas. This helps Doordash ensure that there is not an ample amount of Dashers in one area. One important note, you do not need to fulfill the entire shift you sign up for and you will not be penalized with less orders if you decide to end the shift early.

Requirements to Deliver for Doordash

Part of the reason Doordash is so enticing is because of how few requirements there are to get started! To start, you must be 18 years old and have a smartphone (obviously).

If you decide to drive instead of bike, then you be relieved to hear that there are no car requirements to deliver with Doordash. This is different from UberEats, which requires your car to be 1998 or newer. Granted your car is most likely newer then 1998, if it isn’t, then you’re in luck! You and your stick shift, roll down windows, can make deliveries today. I can say this because I grew up with this kind of car.

In addition to the requirement of a working car, you just need insurance which you likely already have since you have a car. Besides those few things, you are all set to go!

If you do not have a car, no worries. You can deliver with a bike, scooter, and even walk. These are great options to get some exercise in while you are making money.
